My father showed me the magic of photography before I reached my teens. That's been a long time ago. Nonetheless, I've been appreciative of it, and him, ever since.
The magic I speak of is the magic of the darkroom with its dim lights, ticking timer, pungent chemical odors, and suddenly appearing images on photographic paper beneath a swishing acetic acid "fixer."
There's magic in the picture taking, too, of course.
As another photographic mentor once said to me: "It all depends on where your head is."
Double entendre if there ever was one.
These days it's a lot easier ...no chemiclals, no darkroom, no doing it over and over again to get it just right. Just a decent digital camera, a computer with Adobe Photoshop ...and having your head in the right place.
